Ниже представлена хронология чемпионатов UFC, начиная с самого первого по 100. Каждый чемпионат можно посмотреть в видеозаписи.

Хронология чемпионатов UFC
до ZUFFA:

1993— Основание UFC Рорионом Грейси, Арта Деви и Робертом Мейрошитсом.
12 Ноября 1993—состоялся первый чемпионат "UFC 1". Ройс Грейс выиграл турнир, одержав за одну ночь победу над тремя бойцами, включая Кена Шермака.

March 11, 1994- UFC 2 is presented and Royce Gracie wins the tournament again. Big John McCarthy referees for the first time in the UFC.

September 9, 1994—UFC 3 is held, Royce Gracie withdraws from the tournament in the semi-finals because of fatigue. Steve Jennum wins the tournament.

December 16, 1994—Royce Gracie wins the UFC 4 tournament against Dan Severn.

April 7, 1995—UFC 5 is the first event to feature time limits. A 20-minute time limit for the quarter-final and semi-final fights and 30 minutes for the finals. Dan Severn wins the tournament.

July 14, 1995—Michael Buffer is the guest ring announcer for the UFC 6 event. Oleg Taktarov wins the tournament.

September 8, 1995—UFC 7 is presented and Marco Ruas wins the tournament.

December 16, 1995
—UFC 8 is the first even to feature judges if ever the fight goes past the time limit. Dan Severn wins the tournament for the second time.

May 17, 1996—UFC 9 was the first event that didn’t have the tournament format. Senator John McCain campaigns against the sport but it ends up taking place anyway. New rules are established because of this, fighters could only hit with open fists. After the event, John McCain pulled the UFC off cable systems.

July 12, 1996
—Ring announcer Bruce Buffer makes his UFC debut at UFC 10. The tournament format returns and it’s won by Mark Coleman.
September 20, 1996—Mark Coleman wins his second UFC tournament at UFC 11.

February 7, 1997
—UFC 12 is held, for the first time ever, two tournaments take place. One tournament for fighters under 199 pounds and another tournament for fighters over 200 pounds. Vitor Belfort makes his UFC debut and wins the tournament for the heavyweights. Joe Rogan makes his UFC debut as a backstage announcer and the first heavyweight title fight takes place between Dan Severn and Mark Coleman. Coleman wins to become the first ever UFC heavyweight champion.

May 30, 1997—UFC 13 features the debut of both Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz. Randy wins the heavyweight tournament while Tito loses in the finals of the lightweight tournament against Guy Mezger.

July 27, 1997—Padded gloves are needed for the first time at UFC 14.

October 17, 1997—At UFC 15, some rules change. Fighters have limitations as to where they can hit their opponent and hair pulling is no longer acceptable. Vitor Belfort and Randy Couture fight for the first time, Randy wins the fight.

December 21, 1997—The UFC travels to Japan for UFC: Japan. Mike Goldberg makes his UFC debut and Frank Shamrock become the first ever UFC middleweight champion.

March 13, 1998
—UFC 16 features the first ever lightweight tournament for fighters under 170 pounds. Pat Miletich makes his UFC debut and wins the lightweight tournament.

May 15, 1998—UFC 17 is the last event in a while to feature the tournament format. Carlos Newton, Dan Henderson, and Chuck Liddell all make their UFC debut. Henderson wins the middleweight tournament against Newton in the finals.

October 16, 1998
—The UFC travel to Brazil for UFC: Brazil. Pedro Rizzo and Wanderlei Silva make their debut. Silva gets brutally knocked out by Vitor Belfort. This event also featured the first ever lightweight title fight.

January 18, 1999—Bas Rutten and Evan Tanner make their UFC debuts at UFC 18.
March 5, 1999—Kevin Randleman makes his UFC debut at UFC 19. Tito Ortiz flips off the lion’s den after beating Guy Mezger, this started the intense rivalry between Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz.
May 7, 1999
—Nothing special about UFC 20.

July 16, 1999—UFC 21 is presented, the 10 point scoring system used in boxing is established in MMA. Time limits change again, this time undercard fights are two five-minute rounds, maincard fights are three five-minute rounds and title fights are five five-minute rounds.

September 24, 1999—UFC 22 featured what many consider to be the best fight in UFC history, Tito Ortiz vs Frank Shamrock for the UFC middleweight title. Matt Hughes and Jens Pulver both make their debuts. This event is also the last time Frank Shamrock appears in the UFC despite his win over Ortiz. The UFC middleweight title is vacated because of it.

November 19, 1999—The tournament format returns for one final time at UFC 23.

March 10, 2000—Controversy surrounds the heavyweight title fight against Kevin Randleman and Pedro Rizzo at UFC 24. Randleman slips and hits his head in his locker room before the fight. The fight does not take place and is moved to UFC 26.

April 14, 2000—After the retirement of Frank Shamrock with the UFC, Tito Ortiz battles Wanderlei Silva for the vacated middleweight title at UFC 25. Ortiz wins and goes on to be one of the greatest fighters in UFC history.

June 9, 2000—UFC 26 featured the rematch between Kevin Randleman and Pedro Rizzo for the heavyweight title. Kevin Randleman becomes the new UFC heavyweight champion. A bantamweight division is created for fighters under 155 pounds.

September 22, 2000—UFC 27 features the return of Dan Severn who loses to Pedro Rizzo in a heavyweight bout.

November 17, 2000—UFC 28 is sanctioned by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board. New weight classes are added, Randy Couture makes his return and beats Kevin Randleman to become UFC heavyweight champion for a second time. Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett and Babalu all make their UFC debuts.

December 16, 2000
—UFC 29 is held in Japan, it’s also the last event that was held there. Matt Lindland makes his debut while Matt Hughes taps out to Denis Hallman in 21 seconds.

January 2001- The Fertitta brothers (Frank and Lorenzo) buy the Ultimate Fighting Championship for 2 millions dollars and create Zuffa LLC.

February 23, 2001- Zuffa holds it’s first event, UFC 30. Sean Sherk makes his UFC debut while Caol Uno and Jens Pulver fight for the bantamweight title. This marks the first and only time that this championship is on the line before becoming the lightweight title. Tito Ortiz retains his light-heavyweight title with a vicious slam on Evan Tanner.

May 4, 2001- UFC 31 marks the debut of both BJ Penn and Matt Serra. Serra gets KO by a spinning back fist of Shonie Carter. Kevin Randleman makes his debut in the 205 division only to get knocked out by Chuck Liddell in the first round.

June 29, 2001- Future heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez makes his UFC debut at UFC 32 with a win over Andrei Arlovski.

September 28, 2001- UFC 33 was the first event to ever be sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The event had 3 title fights and 6 of the 8 fights went to the judge’s decision. Because of the length of the event, the broadcast ended in the middle of the light-heavyweight title fight. After the event, the number of live fights was reduced to 5 and 3 title fights in one event was never done again.

November 2, 2001- Frank Mir makes his debut at UFC 34 and Matt Hughes beats Carlos Newton for the UFC welterweight title.

January 11, 2002- UFC 35 sees one of the best fights in UFC history as Jens Pulver battles BJ Penn for the lightweight title. Jens Pulver pulls out a decision win to retain his gold and silence the critics.

March 22, 2002- Josh Barnett and Randy Couture headline UFC 36 for the heavyweight belt. Barnett wins the fight but test positive and gets stripped of his newly won title. Pat Miletich makes his last appearance as a fighter in the UFC.

May 10, 2002- UFC 37 saw one of the most controversial UFC fights in history. Matt Lindland and Murilo Bustamante battle it out for the UFC middleweight title and a fight that was billed "The double tap fight”. Bustamante made Lindland tap out early in the fight but Lindland said to Big John he hadn’t tapped out. Big John restarted the fight only for Lindland to tap out again in the third round.

June 22, 2002- UFC 37.5 took place at the last minute to promote the UFC on Fox Sportsnet and it wasn’t named UFC 38 because that event had already been scheduled. This marked the first time Joe Rogan was a commentator. In the main event, Chuck Liddell defeated Vitor Belfort by decision.

July 13, 2002- UFC 38 is the first event to ever be held in England. Matt Hughes retains his welterweight belt against Carlos Newton.

September 27, 2002- After Josh Barnett tested positive and the heavyweight title was vacated, Randy Couture and Ricco Rodriguez battle it out for the title at UFC 39 where Ricco becomes the new champion. This event also features a four men lightweight tournament where Caol Uno beats Din Thomas and BJ Penn beats Matt Serra.

November 22, 2002- UFC 40 is held and Tito Ortiz defends his championship against hated rival Ken Shamrock. Ortiz puts a beating on Ken and only intensifies the rivalry between both fighters. Chuck Liddell makes Renato "Babalu” Sobral famous with a brutal head kick KO.

February 23, 2003- UFC 41 crowned a new heavyweight champion as Tim Sylvia defeated Ricco Rodriguez. The finals of the lightweight tournament was held as BJ Penn and Caol Uno fought to a draw which kept the lightweight title vacated. Tank Abbott made his return but got tapped out in the first round by Frank Mir.

April 25, 2003
- Sean Sherk battles Matt Hughes for the welterweight title at UFC 42 and Hughes retains. David Loiseau and Rich Franklin both have a successful debut on the same night.

June 6, 2003- UFC 43 sees the return of Kimo Leopoldo who beats Tank Abbott, but the event is better remembered for Randy Couture dropping down to 205 and beating Chuck Liddell for the Interim UFC light-heavyweight title and becoming the first man to ever win titles in two different weight classes.

September 26, 2003
- Randy and Tito unify the light-heavyweight belts and Randy dominated Ortiz to a decision. Nate Diaz also made his UFC debut that night with a win over Jeremy Jackson.

November 21, 2003- UFC 45 marks the 10th anniversary of the UFC and Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie are inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Ricco Rodriguez and Pedro Rizzo fight for the last time in the UFC and the healine is a welterweight title fight between Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg.

January 31, 2004- Georges St-Pierre makes his UFC debut at UFC 46 with a win over Karo Parisyan. Considered to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world, BJ Penn moves up in weight and beats Matt Hughes for the welterweight title. The main event only lasts 49 seconds, Randy Couture injures his eye and Vitor becomes the new champion.

February 2004- BJ Penn signs a contract with SEG, another MMA organization. He is stripped of the welterweight title and not seen in the UFC for a while.

April 2, 2004- Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz finally square off at UFC 47 which ends in the second round with a brutal TKO win from Liddell. Current WEC champion Mike Brown makes his only UFC appearance with a submission loss to Genki Sudo in the first round.

June 19, 2004- After having fought at UFC 8, Ken Sharock and Kimo have a rematch at UFC 48 and Ken gets a KO in the first. Frank Mir breaks Tim Sylvia’s arm to become the new heavyweight champion.

August 21, 2004- The early finish of the Couture vs Belfort title fight at UFC 46 sets up a rematch between both men at UFC 49 where Randy regains his title.

September 17, 2004- Tragedy strikes as Frank Mir is hit by a car while he’s riding his motorcycle. Mir sufferes a huge injury that forces him to relinquish his heavyweight title.

October 27, 2004- Patrick Cote makes his UFC debut at UFC 50 and puts on a great performance even in defeat against Tito Ortiz. Matt Hughes submits Georges St-Pierre with only 1 second left in the first round to win the welterweight title that had been vacated thanks to BJ Penn. Rich Franklin drops down to the middleweight division and beats Jorge Rivera.

January 18, 2005- The first season of The Ultimate Fighter is broadcasted.

February 5, 2005- UFC 51 crowns two new champions as Andrei Arlovski beats Tim Sylvia for the heavyweight title and Evan Tanner becomes the new middleweight champion. Vitor Belfort loses to Ortiz and fights for the last time in the UFC.

April 9, 2005- Diego Sanchez and Forrest Griffin become winners of The Ultimate Fighter TV reality show.

April 16, 2005- The coaches of the show, Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell, battle it out in a rematch for the light-heavyweight championship. Chuck KO Couture in the first and begins his impressive reigns as champion. Dan Severn is inducted into the UFC Hall Of Fame and Matt Hughes retains his welterweight title against Frank Trigg.

June 4, 2005- UFC 53 marks Forrest Griffin’s first fight since his win of the show and Rich Franklin wins the UFC middleweight title.

August 6, 2005- The first ever UFC: Fight Night event is held.

August 20, 2005- Diego Sanchez makes his debut since winning the show and Chuck Liddell avenges and earlier loss to Jeremy Horn, all that at UFC 54.

August 22, 2005- The debut of The Ultimate Fighter season 2.

October 7, 2005- UFC 55 marks one of the fastest title fights in history as Andrei Arlovski KO’s Paul Buentello in 15 seconds to retain the heavyweight title.

November 5, 2005- Joe Stevenson and Rashad Evans are crowned winners of The Ultimate Fighter 2.

November 19, 2005- Thiago Alves makes his UFC debut at UFC 65 and Rich Franklin gets a brutal KO win over Nate Quarry to retain his gold.

February 4, 2006- After his near fatal accident, Frank Mir returns at UFC 57 phisically in shape but mentaly a mess and gets dominated. Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture fight for the third time, light-heavyweight title on the line. Randy gets knocked out again and retires from fighting.

March 4, 2006- UFC 58 brings an interesting concept as all the fights see a Canadian against an American. BJ Penn returns and fights Georges St-Pierre in a really close fight, but GSP wins a split decision. In the main event, Rich Franklin dominates David Loiseau on his way to retaining his middleweight championship. At the ned of the night, the final score was 5-3 for the Americans.

April 6, 2006- Beginning of The Ultimate Fighter 3 with Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz as the coaches.

April 15, 2006- UFC 59 was the fastest sell-out event in UFC history so far. Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz had a war which ended in controversy when Tito was declared the winner by split decision and Tim Sylvia regained his heavyweight title from Andrei Arlovski.

May 27, 2006- UFC legend Royce Gracie returned to the UFC for one fight only against welterweight champion Matt Hughes at UFC 60. This was the first time ever since UFC 5 that Gracie was fighting in the U.S.

June 24, 2006- Season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter comes to an end and Kendall Grove and Michael Bisping are the two winners.

June 28, 2006- Anderson "The Spider” Silva makes his UFC debut against Chris Leben.

July 8, 2006- Having both won a fight against each other, Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski fight again two UFC events after their second fight and Sylvia wins a decision at UFC 61. Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz have a rematch from UFC 40 which ends with a victory from Ortiz again. It was also announced at UFC 61 that Chuck Liddell would fight Wanderlei Silva in November, but negociations failed and the fight did not take place.

Early August of 2006- Georges St-Pierre gets injured in training and can’t fight against Matt Hughes for the title at UFC 63.

August 17, 2006- Debut of The Ultimate Fighter season 4: The Comeback

August 26, 2006- UFC 62 sees a much anticipated rematch between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar which ends the same way as the first. Liddell and "Babalu” also have a rematch, this time for the light-heavyweight title and Chuck wins again.

September 23, 2006- BJ Penn replaces and injured Georges St-Pierre at UFC 63 but loses to Matt Hughes in the main event. Former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver returns to the octagon, but his welcome back party gets crushed by a left hook from newcomer Joe Lauzon only 47 seconds into the fight.

October 14, 2006- History is made at UFC 64 as Anderson Silva destroys middleweight champion Rich Franklin and captures the title after his second fight in the UFC. History is also made as Sean Sherk and Kenny Florian fight for the UFC lightweight title. The lightweight championship hadn’t been up for grabs since UFC 41 where BJ and Uno fought to a draw. Sean Sherk becomes the new champion.

November 11, 2006- It’s the finale of season 4 of The Ultimate Fighter. Matt Serra wins and gets a shot at the welterweight title, while Travis Lutter also wins and gets a shot at the middleweight title.

November 18, 2006- UFC 65 sees Georges St-Pierre getting his fight against Matt Hughes for the welterweight title and becoming the new champion for the first time in his UFC career.

December 30, 2006
- UFC 66 becomes the highes live gate revenue event in MMA history. It beat the previous record by 2 million dollars and sees a rematch between Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell for the light-heavyweight championship. Liddell TKO’s Tito in the third round while Michael Bisping makes his official UFC debut. Keith Jardine shocks alot of people by beating Forrest Griffin in the first round and it’s made official that former PRIDE star Mirko Cro Cop has signed with the UFC.



UFC Timeline: Going Mainstream

February 3, 2007
– UFC 67 takes place and Travis Lutter fights Anderson Silva. The fight was supposed to be for the middleweight title but Lutter failed to make weight. It didn’t make much of a difference in the end, since he was submitted in the second round. Lyoto Machida, Mirko Cro Cop and Quinton Jackson all had a succesful UFC debut on the same night.

March 3, 2007 – Randy Couture makes his big return to the UFC at UFC 68 with a dominating victory over UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia to become the new champion. This also marks Couture’s first heavyweight fight since UFC 39.

April 5, 2007 – The debut of The Ultimate Fighter 5 with BJ Penn and Jens Pulver as the coaches.

April 7, 2007 – This date will be remembered for ever as the day that Matt Serra shocked the whole world and TKO’ed Georges St. Pierre in the first round to become the new UFC Welterweight champion at UFC 69. It was also officially announced that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira had signed a contract with the UFC.

April 21, 2007 – Less then two weeks after the shocking win of Matt Serra, another upset takes place at UFC 70. This time, Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Gabriel Gonzaga KO’d Mirko Cro Cop in the first round with a head kick. The event was also supposed to feature a fight between Forrest Griffin and Lyoto Machida, but it ended up being scrapped.

May 26, 2007 – UFC 71 features a rematch between Chuck Liddell and Quinton Jackson this time for the UFC Light-Heavyweight championship. It’s announced that the winner would have to defend the title against Dan Henderson in the near future. Rampage wins against Chuck by first round TKO and captures the gold.

June 16, 2007 – Yushin Okami and Rich Franklin headline UFC 72. At first, the fight was Rich Franklin vs Martin Kampmann, but Kampmann was unable to fight and was replaced by Okami.

June 23, 2007 – Nate Diaz becomes the winner of the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter.

July 7, 2007 – UFC 73 was named Stacked and for good reasons. "Minautoro” Nogueira made his UFC debut with a win over PRIDE rival Heath Herring. Sean Sherk retained his Lightweight title against Hermes Franca and Tito Ortiz fought Rashad Evans to a draw. In the main event, Anderson Silva made an example out of Nate Marquardt and retained his Middleweight title.

August 25, 2007 – Randy Couture retains his heavyweight title after beating top contender Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 74. Renato "Babalu” Sobral makes his last appearance inside the octagon after keeping a submission hold for too long on David Heath.

September 8, 2007
– The UFC travels overseas for UFC 75. England’s own Michael Bisping wins a very controversial decision against Matt Hamill, one that is still questioned to this day. Rampage Jackson and Dan Henderson unify the UFC and PRIDE Light-Heavyweight titles and Quinton wins a decision in the end.

September 19, 2007 – The debut of the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter.

September 22, 2007 – Keith Jardine gets a shot at glory when he fights Chuck Liddell at UFC 76. Jardine edges out Liddell by a little, winning a split decision. Mauricio "Shogun” Rua makes his UFC debut, but his welcoming party gets crushed as Forrest Griffin chokes him out in the third round.

October 11, 2007 – Randy "The Natural” Couture severs all ties with the UFC leading to a contract dispute that will last for one year.

October 20, 2007
– After a win over Yushin Okami, Rich Franklin gets his rematch against Anderson Silva for the Middleweight title at UFC 77. Anderson Silva is dominant yet again and retains his title. It is also announced that former WWE champion Brock Lesnar has signed with the UFC.

November 17, 2007 – Two winners of The Ultimate Fighter collide as Rashad Evans wins a split decision against Michael Bisping at UFC 78 and sends Bisping packing to the Middleweight division.

December 8, 2007 – Mac Danzig becomes the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 6.

December 29, 2007 – UFC 79 features the long awaited showdown between Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva. Chuck pulls out a unanimoudecision win. Matt Serra was supposed to defend the Welterweight belt against Matt Hughes but was injured and could not compete. Instead, Georges St-Pierre stepped in for Serra and had a rubber match against Hughes. GSP dominated Matt and became the interim UFC Welterweight champion.

January 19, 2008 – At UFC 80, history is made once again as BJ Penn puts a vicious beating on Joe Stevenson and wins the lightweight title. He becomes the second man in UFC history to become a champion in two different weight divisions.

February 2, 2008 – Brock Lesnar makes his official UFC debut at UFC 81 only to get submitted by Frank Mir in the first round. Tim Sylvia fights for the last time in the UFC losing to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira after Randy Couture refused to defend the title against Nogueira.

March 1, 2008 – Mark Coleman gets inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame at UFC 82, but that gets overshadowed by Anderson Silva’s dominating performance against Dan Henderson, despite Henderson being the first man in the UFC to win a round against "The Spider”.

April 2, 2008
– Debut of The Ultimate Fighter season 7

April 19, 2008
– The UFC travels to Quebec for the first time and hosts UFC 83. Georges St-Pierre has a rematch for the Welterweight title against Matt Serra and becomes the new champion.

May 24, 2008
– After testing positive in his fight against Hermes Franca, Sean Sherk returned and lost to BJ Penn in the main event. UFC 84 also marked the last fight of Tito Ortiz in the UFC, losing to Lyoto Machida.

June 7, 2008 – UFC 85 will surely go down in history as the event that underwent the most changes. The card was changed several times because of injuries, Shogun Rua and Chuck Liddell were supposed to headline the event but Rua needed surgery on his knee. Shogun was replaced by Rashad Evans, but this time Liddell got injured forcing him out of the card. James Irvin replaces Chuck and is scheduled to fight Evans, but Irvin injures his foot and both Irvin and Evans are no longer on the card. The main event becomes Matt Hughes vs Thiago Alves and Alves makes a statement with a TKO win over Hughes in round 2. In other action, Paul Kelly was supposed to fight Jonathan Goulet but both guys got injured. Michael Bisping was scheduled to fight Chris Leben but Leben got injured and Bisping battled Jason Day instead.

June 21, 2008 – Amir Sadollah wins the finale of The Ultimate Fighter season 7.

July 5, 2008 – The coaches from The Ultimate Fighter collide as Forrest Griffin wins the UFC light heavyweight title from Quinton Jackson in a controversial decision.

July 19, 2008 – Anderson Silva makes a trip to the light heavyweight division and destroys James Irvin in 1:01.

August 9, 2008
– UFC 87 features one of the best cards of the year. UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman was supposed to fight Brock Lesnar but got injured. Lesnar fought Heath Herring instead and dominated three rounds to a Unanimous Decision victory. Kenny Florian defeated Roger Huerta and sent him packing out of the UFC. In the main event, GSP dominated Jon Fitch on his way to retain his welterweight belt.

September 6, 2008
– Rashad Evans lands a punch on Chuck Liddell at UFC 88 and knocks him out cold. Rich Franklin returns to the 205 division with a win over good friend Matt Hamill and Martin Kampmann loses for the first time in the UFC against Nate Marquardt sending him into the 170 pound division.

September 17, 2008
– Debut of The Ultimate Fighter 8
October 18, 2008 – Thiago Silva vs Lyoto Machida was initially scheduled for UFC 89, but a back injury forced Silva out of the fight. Micheal Bisping beats Chris Leben in the main event and Leben is then suspended for 9 months for testing positive.

October 25, 2008 – Anderson Silva toys around with Patrick Cote until a freak accident occurs and Cote is unable to continue. Josh Koscheck replaces Diego Sanchez and fights Thiago Alves only to get dominated and lose a decision.

November 15, 2008 – History is made at UFC 91, Brock Lesnar beats Randy Couture in his fourth pro fight and becomes UFC Heavyweight champion. This marks Couture’s return fight since the end of the contract disputes with the UFC.

December 13, 2008 – Efrain Escudero and Ryan Bader win The Ultimate Fighter 8.

December 27, 2008 – Another big card is featured at UFC 92, Rampage Jackson finally wins against Wanderlei Silva. Frank Mir surprises everybody by being the only man in MMA history to finish Antonio "Minautoro” Nogueira in a fight. Rashad Evans becomes the new UFC Light-Heavyweight champion when he beats Forrest Griffin in the main event.

January 17, 2009
– The UFC goes to Ireland to present UFC 93 in which Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin battle it out in the main event. The winner becomes the coach of Team US on season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter to coach against Michael Bisping. In a close and controversial decision, Henderson wins the fight. Shogun Rua and Mark Coleman have a long awaited rematch. Neither guy looks impressive but Rua wins.

January 31, 2009 – It’s UFC 94 and it’s time for Georges St-Pierre vs BJ Penn 2. BJ gets dominated by GSP who retains his title. A grease controversy occurs in between rounds as GSP gets rubbed with grease sending Penn in a fit of rage. Lyoto machida makes short work of Thiago Silva with a first round KO.

February 21, 2009 – Diego Sanchez makes his debut at 155 and beats Joe Stevenson at UFC 95.

March 7, 2009
– Shane Carwin silences the critics and beats Gabriel Gonzaga in the first round. Quinton Jackson beats Keith Jardine in the main event.

April 1, 2009
– Debut of The Ultimate Fighter season 9.

April 18, 2009
– The UFC returns to Quebec for UFC 97. Controversy surrounds the event because of sanctioning and rule problems. Anderson Silva beats Thales Leites by Unanimous Decision to retain his title and Shogun Rua beats Chuck Liddell in dominant fashion.

May 23, 2009
– Frank Mir was supposed to fight Brock Lesnar in the main event of UFC 98 but Mir suffered an injury and pulled out of the fight. Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans were then scheduled for a title fight but Jackson needed surgery in his jaw. Rashad Evans ended up defending his title against undefeated Lyoto Machida. Machida dominated the fight getting touched less then 5 times in the fight and became the new champion and giving Rashad his first loss. Bitter rivals also squarred off as Matt Serra and Matt Hughes went to a decision that favored Hughes.

June 13, 2009 – UFC went to germany for UFC 99 with a main event between two legends in Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin. Franklin won by Unanimous Decision after a very exciting fight. Heath Herring was taken off the card due to illness, Cheik Kongo replaced him against Cain Valasquez who went on to win a decision. Mirko Cro Cop also returned to the UFC and won, only to leave the UFC one day later.

June 20, 2009
– James Wilks and Ross Pearson from Team UK win The Ultimate Fighter season 9.
